Let the words dare to noise

Poetic Justice Books has just published For Those Who Don't Know Chocolate, a collection of poetry by the Egyptian writer Amirah al Wassif.

When I first encountered Amirah Al Wassif’s poetry in an online forum, I was taken aback by the absolute power of her words. I do not remember who directed me to A Question from the Refugee Camps, but I owe them a great big hug of gratitude. I remember simply sitting back in my chair and thinking, “This is beyond poetry – this is vision.” Amirah’s engagement with her themes, her subjects, rolls an extremely personal take in a universal wrapper. These are poems that need to be shared.

Working with Amirah on this collection, gathered together from a diverse array of cultural and literary outlets, has been a wonderful experience. I know readers of Amirah’s work will come away with greater appreciation for the beauty in our world and greater indignation at the outrages committed against it.
